Ball Bearings
A ball bearing is a type of bearing balls used items to maintain separation between the moving parts of the bearing.
The purpose of a ball bearing is to reduce rotational friction and support radial and axial loads. This is achieved by at least two races to contain the balls and transmit the loads through the balls. Usually, one of the races is held fixed. As one of the bearing races rotates it causes the balls to rotate as well. Because the balls are rolling they have a coefficient of friction much lower than if two flat surfaces were rotating between them.
You tend to have less load for its size than other types of bearing elements due to less contact between balls and races. However, they can tolerate some misalignment of the inner and outer races.
Compared with other rolling-element bearings, this bearing type is the least expensive, especially for the low cost of production of the balls used in the bearing.
Designs:
There are several common designs, each offering different advantages and disadvantages. Can be made of different materials such as stainless steel, chrome, and ceramic. A ball bearing is a hybrid ceramic ball bearings and races metal.
The basic parts of a ball bearing:
Interior Racing – This is the part that is mounted on the axis of rotation and tends to rotate the shaft.
Outer Race – This is the part that is mounted to the housing and is stationary. This also serves as a means of transferring bearing loads to housing.
The rolling elements "Balls" – These are the elements that carry the load distribution along the raceways. They tend to revolve around the indoor track, but not fast rotating inner ring. It is like the relationship between earth and moon.
Cage – This is an important element in the bearing. This acts as a barrier between them prevents the balls collide.
Apart from that the bearings ball bearings are available with some special design features such as shielded bearings and sealed bearings.
Shielded:
The main difference is that in the case of a shielded bearing, protects rolling element external dirt and the shield is usually made of plastic or special rubber.
Sealing:
Sealed ball bearing is one that is completely sealed inside the lubricant. It impedes the flow of other lubricants in the area of the rolling elements and also keeps the oil inside the fat that is out of the zone of rolling elements.
Of Load carrying capacity:
Ball has a good ability to run at high speeds, but the average freight transport. They can only carry average loads and therefore find use in almost all household items such as ceiling fans, mixes, mills, etc.
These are capable of carrying good amount of radial loads, axial loads but can be made only to a point. Therefore, these bearings are used in applications requiring heavy axial load to be transported.
Notes:
1. Ball bearings are usually indicated with a "6" as the series started. For example. 6006, 6204, etc. So a relationship with the item number and "6" denotes a ball bearing.
2. A normally shielded ball bearing denoted by "2 RSR 'as a suffix to the number of bearing. Example: 6006.2RSR
3. Sealed bearings usually denoted as 'Z' suffix if it is sealed one side and 'ZZ' as a suffix if sealed on both sides.
