Is it okay to keep a bag of 50 pounds of timothy hay?
Will it go bad, old or something? Will it mold? Is the quality down? Also, how long will it last? I heard one pound takes about 2 weeks. And pellets. A 50-pound bag of Cavy cuisine. Will you go wrong? Will to spoil? "I can hold the pellets in the freezer to keep vitamin C? How long does a pound of Cavy Cuisine past? Thanks!
There CAN NOT be kept in an airtight container! They remain dormant and retained the moisture causes mold. I can order a box of 50 # of Oxbow Timothy hay on a monthly basis my hay dealers. I can use the box it came shipped for storage in if you are in pretty good shape. Otherwise, keep it in a Rubbermaid trash can with holes drilled on good air circulation. If using the table, just pull out the plastic bag and store hay in the box. I holes in the box too. While hay is stored properly (dry place with good air circulation) that can last for long! As for pills, I had a guinea pig and ate Cavy kitchen too. I would buy a 5 # bag and the latest Monthes 2.5, it would have a measured portion. I followed your tablets in the original bag. If you get 50 #, store in an airtight container to maintain freshness. Ideally, capsules using up to 6 months after the milling date in order to maximize all the nutrients in the pellets. Freezing the puck is not going to keep vitamin C. This begins to deteriorate after they have been exposed to air. That's why you can not count only pill supply of vitamin C. Oranges and greens will be more than sufficient for their needs for vitamin C guinea pigs.
